Hospitals and medical facilities can be complex places that may leave visitors confused and frustrated. Directional signs are an effective means of communication when navigating unfamiliar surroundings. In addition, they are an all-important welcoming signal.
One clear example of the importance of including a cohesive sign program in the earliest stages of master planning is the recently completed PRIME sign project at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicines (LECOM) new Wellness Center.
LECOM's new $50 million Medical Fitness & Wellness Center found it needed the services of PRIME to address a void in their facility planning. Signs were not well integrated into their building plans. They faced this mounting problem as the construction neared completion.. LECOM urgently needed a wayfinding signage program.
PRIME was able to provide the required services to design and execute a comprehensive sign plan. We were able to implement and satisfy the Centers critical requirements all in a very limited time period . Starting in Nov of 2009, LECOM commissioned Howard Industries to conduct a full campus wide site survey. One week later, the package was presented and accepted by the owners. Using the survey blueprints, LECOM was able to the select the designs, agree on sign locations and overall quantities that comfortably met their project allowances.
Ultimately the sign package gave the owners two important aspects that should be considered in any new sign project. First, form, fit, and function must hit the mark. Second, and perhaps more importantly is the aesthetic component. The new signs, which ranged from DesignStone Main Identification and Directionals, parking, wordbar directionals, illuminated pylons and LED Channel Letters, complimented the modern look of this impressive facility.
