Parking Signs

In developing a signage master plan, Parking Signs identify entrances to parking areas or facilities; denote no parking areas; and provide information and directions regarding traffic patterns, parking locations, restrictive parking, hours and rates. Parking signs should offer organized information and directions that are quick to read and easy to understand, and should be strategically located to be highly visible to motorists and pedestrians as they enter, exit, and travel throughout ground lots, interior lots or multilevel parking decks.

Parking Signs often utilize several illuminated and non-illuminated sign types including freestanding post & panel signs, mid-size pylons or small monument signs to identify entrances and exits around the perimeter of the parking facility, or to convey information and directions to approaching motorists. Consideration should also be given to the need for post & panel, wall or ceiling mounted signs in the role of clearance warning signs, parking space availability signs, parking level status indicators and traffic flow signs. LED Traffic Control units are ideal for segregating motorists to particular sections, denoting restrictive movements and identifying destinations, exits, etc.

Parking Signs Master Plan Process

In regard to Parking Signs, our comprehensive Signage Master Plan process evaluates the unique needs of every project and involves:

  • the input, vision and goals of the client
  • research and analysis of sign locations, vehicular and pedestrian traffic patterns, parking restrictions, potential problem areas, as well as sign size and type
  • limitations of grounds, environment, visibility, resources, and obstacles such as adverse lighting conditions, obscure building structures, increased possibility of vandalism and a limited field of vision
  • defining a hierarchy of information and quick visual directions to guide motorists safely, and to determine what locations and sign types will best benefit motorists and pedestrians by eliminating traffic congestion and parking frustrations
  • concept and design development that provides a uniform, organized approach to traffic directions and parking information
  • continuity of visual identity that engages and reinforces branding
  • product design and construction that achieves a balance between design, durability and functional flexibility…especially in overcoming existing physical barriers associated with interior lots or multilevel parking decks
  • aesthetic consistency with other signs in the overall signage program in regard to design, color, and construction
