Wayfinding & Directional Signs

In developing a signage master plan, the Wayfinding & Directional Signs are perhaps the most extensive and most critically located of the exterior grounds signs. Wayfinding actually begins beyond the boundaries of the facility and includes any necessary DOT signs on roadways and interstates leading to the grounds or campus, and continues with trailblazer signs that navigate from interstate exits through surrounding neighborhoods bringing visitors to appropriate entryways. Directional signs are then strategically placed to offer pedestrian and vehicular traffic quick help at intersections, through parking areas and around multiple building complexes.

Wayfinding & Directional Signage Basics

Wayfinding & Directional Signs provide a system of information and directions needed to guide motorists and pedestrians, safely and efficiently, in and around your campus, facility or grounds. These signs should be strategically located to be easily visible to motorists and pedestrians, and should offer organized information and directions that are quick to read and easy to understand. All will require establishing a hierarchy of information within the wayfinding sign program to determine what information, locations and sign types will best benefit motorists and pedestrians. Wayfinding and Directional signs can employ multiple listing signs with changeable wordbars or panels; freestanding post & panel signs, small pylons or small monument type signs; and may include directories or campus map kiosks (with "you are here" locators).
